Getting started

The first week with SitesProof: add a client and a site, verify the domain, read the severities, and get a report to the client.

By The SitesProof team · Updated

An agency account is a portfolio: clients, the sites belonging to each client, and one crawl per site per week. This page is the order to do things in on day one. Nothing here needs a call with us, and nothing in SitesProof ever changes a client's website.

Add a client, then a site

Clients come first, because every site belongs to one. On Clients, add the client's name and, if you want reports emailed, a contact address. On Sites, pick the client and paste the address you want watched — the page most worth watching is usually the checkout, because that is the page the payment-script and cookie checks have anything to say about.

You can add the sites of a client you have not told about SitesProof yet. Client names and logos are your data: we never use them as examples and never show them to anyone else — see security.

Verify the domain before monitoring starts

A new site is Unverified. It is stored, and it is not crawled on a schedule. Weekly monitoring only starts once you have proved you control the domain, by adding one DNS TXT record — how to verify a site walks through it.

This is deliberate: a scheduled crawl of somebody else's website, every week, forever, is not something we will do on an anonymous request. The free scan exists for the one-off case.

What one scan does

One crawl of the site feeds all six checks. They read the crawl, never the live site, so a check can be re-run after we improve a rule without touching the client's server again. What the six checks look at covers each one, including what it cannot see.

Every observation gets a severity, and the words mean something specific:

SeverityWhat we mean by it
CriticalMoney, personal data or legal exposure is involved right now.
HighShould be looked at this week.
MediumShould be looked at this month.
LowA small thing to tidy when the site is next touched.
InfoWorth knowing. Nothing to do unless it is unexpected.

Severities grade how much attention an observation deserves. They are never a verdict on whether a site passes, fails or complies with anything.

When scans run, and what you hear about

Monitored sites are crawled weekly, early on Monday morning UTC. After each crawl we compare the findings with the previous scan for the same site, so what reaches you is the change: a new observation, or one that had gone away and came back. An observation that is simply still there does not email you again every week.

A site you no longer want crawled can be paused, which is different from unverified: Paused by you is your decision, Unverified is our gate.

Triage and the client-facing side

Findings is the wide table — site, check, severity, when it was first and last seen — and it is the screen for working through a portfolio on a desktop. Reports holds the per-client PDF; Branding holds the logo and colours that get stamped on it. What is in a client report describes what the client actually receives.

Getting help

Support is docs, email and in-app chat — we do not do sales or onboarding calls, and nothing in the product requires one. Email support@sitesproof.com and you are writing to the person who builds it.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do I have to talk to someone to get started?

No. Sign up, add a site, verify the domain and pay — all of it self-serve. Support is docs, email and in-app chat; there is no call to book.

Can I add a client site before telling the client?

Yes. You can add any site to your portfolio, and a one-off free scan needs nothing at all. Weekly monitoring needs a DNS TXT record on the domain, which means someone who controls it has to add it.

How often are sites crawled?

Once a week, early on Monday morning UTC, for every verified site that is not paused.

Start with one page.

Paste a client’s checkout address and see what a crawl reports. No account, no card, and the report has a link you can send to anyone.
